Helen Edmunds

Helen Edmunds is the BFI’s Head of Collections Management. Helen has over 20 years of experience in collection care and development, and access to and conservation of the BFI’s paper and moving image collections.

As Head of Collections Management her work involves standards, processes and procedures for collections care and access, with strategic and operational responsibility for varied disciplined teams and activities across multiple archive sites. The department is responsible for:

  • delivering access to the collections of the BFI National Archive, including licencing footage for cultural and commercial projects, exhibitions and creative reuse
  • innovating and maintaining the technologies and equipment that underpin a moving image archive
  • undertaking videotape preservation through large-scale digitisation and digitally-capturing television as broadcast
  • the security, location and movement control of the national collection

At the BFI, Helen has been on the delivery team of numerous large scale multi-year projects. These include funded digitisation and access programmes, project lead on a major two-year collections management review and relocation programme of the preservation film collection (to the BFI’s Master Film Store, constructed in 2012) and the delivery of the BFI’s Collections Information Database.
