Danny Leigh

Danny Leigh is the Chief Film Writer at the Financial Times. Previously, he was the senior curator of fiction in the BFI National Archive from 2017 to 2019. He has worked in film journalism more than 20 years. In TV and radio, he was co-host of the BBC1 Film programme for seven years. He has made documentaries about boxing movies for BBC4 and David Lynch for Radio 4, as well as two series for BBC Arts: Film Now: 21st Century Cinema and British Film Mavericks.

As a programmer, he was part of the team that launched the educational charity Film Club (now Into Film), and has worked with numerous festivals and independent cinemas. Before joining the curatorial team, he worked closely with the BFI on their Alan Clarke and London projects, and has been contributing to Sight & Sound since the 1990s. He has written two novels, The Greatest Gift and The Monsters of Gramercy Park, both published by Faber & Faber.

His areas of interest include class and British cinema, psychology on film and the film connections of Graham Greene.
