When he died over 30 years ago, Orson Welles left behind hundreds of character sketches, set designs, doodles, illustrations and images of the people and places that inspired him.
The Eyes of Orson Welles (released on DVD by Dogwoof this September), sees filmmaker Mark Cousins dive deep into the visual world of this legendary director as he is granted exclusive access by Welles’s daughter to hundreds of private drawings and paintings.
What is revealed is a portrait of the artist as he’s never been seen before – through his own eyes. Cousins brings Welles’s graphic world vividly to life while also creating an account of the 20th century and a meditation on the continuing relevance of Welles’s genius in what he describes as these “Wellesian times’’.
Bonus features on the disc include a Q&A with Mark Cousins at BFI Southbank and images from his phone camera.
We have five DVD copies to give away.
The competition closes on Thursday 11 October 2018 and is open to UK residents only.
