The return to the big screen of Stanley Kubrick’s spectacular 2001: A Space Odyssey, also saw the film’s lead actors reunited at BFI Southbank last Sunday. Before a special screening, part of our Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder season celebrating film and TV’s blockbuster genre, here’s what they said about Kubrick’s visually stunning sci-fi epic.

Keir Dullea on 2001: A Space Odyssey
In a way, HAL is the most alive character, and that was intentional.
The real emotional scene for me is when I take HAL's brain apart.
The most difficult thing for me physically was when HAL wouldn't let me in. The couldn't use a stunt man and I had to dive head-first, free-fall.

Gary Lockwood on 2001: A Space Odyssey

The film influenced so many people. It was a sociological change.
It was the youth in America that really took up 2001.
