I have struggled so much to make these choices, considering their importance in cinema heritage, contribution to cinema aesthetics and influence on me personally, both as a film viewer and as a filmmaker. It breaks one’s heart to omit quite a number of equally powerful important films. (I cannot help but note the Luis Buñuel short film Un Chien Andalou.) It was a gruelling task and a pleasure at the same time.
