John Malcolm Brinnin, an academic and aspiring poet in 1950s New York meets Dylan Thomas who is conducting a poetry tour of America. When Thomas’s heavy drinking and increasingly erratic behaviour jeopardise the tour, Brinnin takes the Welsh poet to rural Connecticut in a desperate attempt at detoxification ahead of his next scheduled speaking engagement.
