Potiche (2010)

Film details

Comedy drama. Suzanne, the oppressed wife of rich, unfaithful businessman Robert Pujol, agrees to take over the running of the umbrella factory which he manages (and which her father founded) when Robert is injured during a workers' strike. Suzanne does much better than anyone expects her to, brings the strike to a happy conclusion and makes a success of the business. Her son becomes an umbrella designer. The local mayor, Maurice Babin, a Communist, finds himself falling in love with her again (as they have some history together). When Robert returns from a convalescent cruise, he resolves to oust his wife and take over the running of the factory again, returning to his old exploitative ways. Suzanne decides to run for mayor, aided by Robert's former secretary and mistress, Nadège.
