Biographical drama set in Krakow, Poland. Following the death of his mother, young Karol Wojtyla is brought up by his father. His plans to become an actor are soon changed when his country is invaded by the Nazis in 1939. After the death of his father he decides to follow a vocation to the priesthood. After the Second World War II, he becomes Bishop of Krakow and eventually pope, with a special gift for fighting Communism and other oppressive regimes.
