The Quiet (2005)

Film details

When her father dies, Dot is taken in by adoptive godparents Paul and Olivia, who have a teenage daughter Nina. Nina resents Dot's presence, especially since Dot is sullen, deaf and silent. They both attend the same school, where Nina is a cheerleader, but Nina has few friends and cannot fit in. However, Dot finds that other people gradually reveal their secrets to her and she is able to detect others. Olivia is self-centred and concerned with material things, whilst Nina is disturbed by a love-hate relationship with her abusive father Paul, who also acknowledges that he is sick. Sex and attraction are also to the fore amongst high school colleagues.
