Synopsis

Drama centred around the trade in poor Muslim girls in the guise of "wives" for rich Arabs through agents who make all the arrangements and make money on the deals. The marriages are terminated after about three months when it is time for the men to return home. Based in a Muslim community on the coast of South Karnataka, the story centres around one such woman, Rukhiya. She and her husband fall in love with each other. He leaves her pregnant, promising to return but never does. Rukhiya has a daughter, Unnisa and lives in hope for her husband's return. Sixteen years later, after shielding Unnisa from the attentions of Hassanabba, the local agent, Rukiya is pressured into agreeing to a marriage for her. At the last minute, she cancels her daughter's marriage.
