The first programme in an eight-part series in which Professor Aubrey Manning seeks to solve some of the enduring mysteries of the British landscape through clues in geology, archaeology and natural history. In this programme, he travels to Ireland in search of a Celtic Eldorado, a secret source of Bronze Age gold, buried more than 3,000 years ago. How can clues in the landscape help him work out if and where deposits still exist? Amongst the places he visits are the Wicklow Hills, where he learns how to pan for gold, Croagh Patrick, the holy mountain on Ireland's west coast, and the Sperrin Mountains in west central Northern Ireland. He is assited in his quest by the geologist Rob Chapman.
