Synopsis
The second programme in a three-part investigation into the life, science and art of Leonardo da Vinci. Uses computer graphics, virtual reality and dramatised documentary sequences, to explore aspects of his life and work, including analysis, reconstruction and testing of several of his inventions. Episode two follows Leonardo as he moved from Milan to the patronage of the warlord Ceasare Borgia. To keep his tyrannical boss happy, he designs armoury, maps and war machines, rather than paintings. Back in Florence, while painting the `Mona Lisa', he becomes locked in rivalry with Michelangelo, who is chosen over Leonardo to create a sculpture of the biblical David in Florence, Focusing again on his anatomical research, Leonardo dissects human bodies and makes discoveries about embryology and heart disease hundreds of years ahead of others. The programme attempts to build and test three more Leonardo designs for a glider, a robot and an underwater diving suit.
