Synopsis
One of a series of six programmes which explores how non-violent power overcame oppression and authoritarian rule in various countries during the 20th century. Tells how, in 1983, overcoming a decade of paralyzing fear, Chilean copper miners triggered a national day of protest against the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet, leading to years of non-violent organising and culminating in victory in a plebiscite to end his rule. On October 5, 1988, Pinochet was voted out of office, fifteen years after seizing power in a military coup.
