The third programme in a four-part series in which Dr Tristram Hunt uses dramatic reconstructions to re-assess the so-called `English Civil War'. In this programme he traces the course of the conflict, when England, Scotland and Ireland are at total war from Cromwell's victory at the battle of Marston Moor up to the surrender of Charles I. Events covered include Cromwell's raising of the New Model Army, the battle of Naseby, the defeat of the king's ally, Montrose in Scotland and Charles' flight in disguise from Oxford.
