Synopsis
Discusses a project to revitalise Lake Baringo in Kenya's Rift Valley. Since the 1980s. the lake has been rapidly turning into a swamp. As the lake has shrunk, its fish population, and the wildlife around its shores, has gone into a sharp decline. A major cause of the crisis is soil run off from farmers' fields. Not only was it choking life in the lake, the degraded land could no longer produce sufficient food for the local population, leading to an increase in hunting and foraging. Local farmers are now being encouraged to use techniques which stop soil being washed away. Their yields are increasing and hopes are growing that the lake itself will one day recover.
