Synopsis
Looks at the construction of the international stadium at Yokohama, the venue for football's World Cup Final 2002. The city, like the nearby capital Tokyo, is built on a flood plain, and used to be one of the world's most flood-prone cities. The stadium is built on pillars that place it four stories above the swampy flood plain beneath. It is a small component of a Japanese policy of heading off the threat from flooding while conserving valuable wetland areas.
