Synopsis
In arid countries, there is a great need for crops that can cope with water shortages, high temperatures and poor soils. Past attempts to use the desert for agricultural purposes - for growing fruit trees for instance - have had only limited success, and have generally not proved to be cost effective. Now Israeli agronomist Yosef Mizrahi asks: why not to take desert plants, such as cacti, and convert them into crops?
