Synopsis
Ten African countries share the world's longest river, the Nile. Its basin has long been a place of dispute, even war, and, without agreement, increasing demands for water could lead to real conflict. Nile Basin countries are embarking on an unprecedented international co-operation designed to head off the threat of conflict, provide much needed social and economic development and protect the Nile itself. The programme travels along the length of the river, from Rwanda to Egypt, examining the social and environmental problems that local communities face, and discusses the new initiative.
