Synopsis

Drama set in 1945 at the end of the Second World War. Seventeen year old Karl is a prisoner of the Gestapo as the Americans advance on Cologne. Previously he was in a gang with other youths who called themselves the Edelweiss Pirates, with anti-establishment attitudes. Karl was in love with his dead brother's fiancée Cilly, but she started to fall in love with Hans, a runaway prisoner that the gang find and hide. With the death of his father at the front, Karl becomes withdrawn, and his younger brother Peter, formerly a keen member of the Hitler Youth, becomes disillusioned and more inclined towards t he Pirates. A split in opinion between the brothers over what to do leads Karl into his predicament with the Gestapo.
