Synopsis

After his mother has died, 40-year-old Elling is discovered living in her apartment having had no connection with the outside world. After treatment for two years, Elling is sent to live in an apartment with Kjell, who himself is rather slow. The two men begin to negotiate their way in the world and after attending a poetry reading, Elling begins to create his own work. He leaves it stuffed into packages of sauerkraut in the local supermarket....
