Looks at the ecological problems caused by the introduction by humans of non-native species to new areas and the efforts being made by scientists to deal with some of them. Problems examined include the devastation caused over the past 200 years by rats in the Seycelles, the decimation caused by hedgehogs to ground nesting birds in the Outer Hebrides after the population grew from an initial release of seven hedgehogs to control garden slugs to more than 6000, and, in New York, the Asian longhorn beetle, which is threatening to destroy the trees of Central Park and the forests of the eastern coast.
