Drama about a Hungarian family who decide to leave Budapest for the United States in the early 50s. Forced to leave behind one of their two daughters, Suzanne, parents Peter and Margit hope they will be re-united with Suzanne in Vienna after entrusting the child to Margit's mother Helen. However Helen can't bring herself to make the trip and when she is imprisoned, Suzanne is fostered by an older couple who live in the countryside. Suzanne is eventually re-united with her family as a teenager but finds life in Los Angeles more difficult than anyone had imagined.
