World War II drama set in 1942 about Edmond, a Jewish butcher, and his wife Micheline who live in cramped circumstances with their daughter Marguerite and her fiance Pierre-Jean in Nazi-occupied Paris. A wealthy Jewish family, the Bernsteins, are planning their escape to Switzerland but they are betrayed by Pierre-Jean who has his eye on their splendid apartment. The Bernsteins are arrested by the SS but their young son, Simon, escapes and returns to the family home - only to find Edmond and his family living there. Edmund resolves to shelter the boy and find a way to get him and several other refugee children to safety.
