Explores the paradox of so-called `autistic-savants', people with learning difficulties and severe communication problems who display extraordinary genius-like abilities, such as the talents of jazz guitarist Derek Paravicini and the young artist Stephen Wiltshire, and as portrayed by Dustin Hoffman in the film `The Rain maker'. Examines claims that we could all unlock such potential in our brains. Contributors include: Prof Allan Snyder, and Dr Bruce Miller. The latter's work with people with dementia has revealed patients who have discovered new artistic talents as their brains have deteriorated.
