The twenty-first programme in a thirty part series which tackles complex issues of globalisation and growing inequality. A report on how the oppression of the minority Kurds in the disputed enclave of north Iraq has caused a backlash of violence in Kurdish society - often directed at women. Profiles three women: Nasik, a woman doctor who gave up her career to run a shelter for women living under threat of death from their families; Beyan, a woman lawyer fighting to change the laws on justice for women; Rezan, a female member of the government-backed Peshmerga Force of women soldiers, one area of Kurdish life where women are most free.
