Thriller: respected but unruly US Marshal Conor Gallagher, down on his luck after being injured in the line of duty, is grudgingly retired from active service to work as bodyguard to Federal Judge Faith Mattis in Washington DC. A fearless and ambitious lady, and the youngest judge ever to sit on a federal court, Faith is not the kind of person who thinks she needs help in anything. Conor, too, is insulted by the assignment, but events quickly overwhelm their petty differences. Threats on Faith's life suggest she has unwittingly stumbled upon something. It soon become clear that what she has unearthed is connected to a case involving the military authorities - not the kind of thing that can be simply cleared up in a court of law. As she digs deeper, with Conor reluctantly along for the ride, the two of them are drawn into a conspiracy propagated from the heart of the Pentagon to take over the government of the United States.
