Synopsis

Set in Italy in 1938, the story revolves around two harberdashers with neighbouring shops. One shopkeeper is Jewish, the other is not. Professional rivalry divides them and antagonism characterises their relationship. With the advent of the anti-Semitic Race Laws, their attitude starts to change. The non-Jewish shopkeeper shocked by the intolerance shown towards his Jewish colleague, considered 'different' from birth because of his race, decides to befriend him and show solidarity, helping him to bearthe injus- tice of his situation.
