Daniel Pike is turned down by Ethel Simpson because her father, Horace, is sending her and her brother to Europe. After they've left, the dying Horace asks Pike to be the guardian of his children. He travels to Europe, exposes one of Ethel's suitors as a scoundrel, and is reconciled with her.
