Drama. In 1874, when the South are being defeated in America's Civil War and ex-slaves are becoming used to having their freedom, David Dickson, the owner of a large plantation, dies. His daughter, Amanda, learns that she has been left his property. This does not sit well with the dead man's racist brother, who contests the will. Amanda eventually learns that she is the child of David Dickson and a slave, Julia.
