The Patriot (2000)

Film details

In late eighteenth-century America, widower Benjamin Martin is content to spend the rest of his life raising his seven children, having been a soldier for most of his younger years. But several American colonies have decided to join a rebellion against the taxation policies of King George, and a Declaration of Independence is due to be signed. Benjamin is powerless to stop his son, Gabriel, from joining the army. When a British colonel, Tavington, arrests Gabriel, Benjamin is forced to resort to warrior tactics to save him from the hangman. Benjamin becomes a colonel in the army of South Carolina and develops a reputation due to his fighting tactics, becoming known as `the Ghost'. As the British become more and more exasperated by the American rebels' success, the scene is set for a decisive battle.
