Songcatcher (2000)

Film details

Drama. Dr Lily Penleric is incensed when the music board at her university denies her a tenure. She leaves, but has nowhere else to work as a music teacher except the mountain school founded by her sister. However, for Lily the move proves to be a godsend when she discovers the rich vein of folk music that has been handed down throughout the generations of people who live in the region. She sets about collecting the music, despite the fact that the poor people living in the area are obliged to sell their land to coal mining companies nearby, and thus the source of the music seems set to disappear.
