Based on the novel `The Mammy' by Brendan O'Carroll. Set in Dublin in 1967, about a newly widowed woman with seven children, who finds herself in financial difficulties, in debt to a local loan shark. Her best friend is diagnosed with breast cancer and on a day trip buys tickets to a Tom Jones concert. Meanwhile, the widow is asked out by a French baker. The children enlist the pop singer's help.

Drama. Set in Dublin in 1967, the story centres on Agnes Browne, a feisty young widow with seven children, who finds herself at the mercy of a ruthless loan shark, and finds it difficult to make ends meet on her own. Things begin to look up when Agnes has a chance to attend a concert featuring her idol, Welsh singing star Tom Jones, courtesy of a baker, Pierre, who asks Agnes out on a date.
