Synopsis

Satire. At the end of the summer in 1967, a couple arrive at an orphanage, looking for a young girl to replace their daughter as a waitress in their restaurant, on the edge of the forest. The orphanage is for girls from former colonial territories. Although the couple live in an insular, all-white community, they are overly keen to offer the job to a young black woman. Their behaviour is odd since, although they tell Diamantine, the young woman, that she is one of the family, they encourage the rest of the community to disapprove of her being there. They then ask Diamantine whether, as a joke, she would pretend to be pregnant. When Jan, a Flemish friend just out of prison, comes to stay, the situation takes on a bizarre twist.
