Liberty Heights (1999)

Film details

Comedy drama. The story is set in the 'fifties in the predominantly Jewish neighbourhood of Liberty Heights, Baltimore. The Kurtzman family are a middle-class family living in the area, and the two sons of the family, Van and Ben, don't always conform to their parents' wishes to `stay with their own kind'. Ben in particular ventures into Gentile territory to attend parties, and befriends an African-American girl in his class. Meanwhile the father of the family, Nate, is having his own problems, especially when he becomes caught up in the numbers racket and tangles with Little Melvin, a small-time hood.
