Film details


Drama. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Liu Jing Lun, a photographer, is intent on founding a film industry in China. A visitor from Britain, Raymond Wallace, is also intent on introducing silent cinema to the capital, Imperial Peking as it is then known. The first silent films were known as `shadow magic', hence the film's title. A collaboration begins between Liu and Wallace, but there are difficulties to face, such as the possible loss of Liu's job.
