Synopsis
Based on the novel by John Irving. The story of a young man who strives to find out where he belongs. Having spent most of his life in an orphanage in Maine under the watchful eye of a doctor who carries out illegal abortions, he leaves the home in company with a young pilot and his pregnant girlfriend. When the pilot is away fighting in the Second World War, he finds himself falling in love with the girlfriend.
Drama. Homer Wells is a young orphan who has been raised by Dr Wilbur Larch in the Maine countryside of the 1930's. Although Homer is happy to look after abandoned children and deliver unwanted babies, his beliefs prevent him from assisting Dr Larch in performing the illegal abortions which he carries out. Dr Larch, however, is of the opinion that he is better equipped to perform the act than a backyard abortionist who could harm vulnerable young women. When a young pilot arrives with his pregnant girlfriend, Homer decides to leave with them for a taste of a different kind of life. With the pilot away fighting in World War II, Homer finds himself becoming more attracted to the pilot's girlfriend, Candy.
