Drama. The story is centred on the period of the Thirties against a background of politics mixing with art in the United States, particularly in this instance on the New York stage. Several leading lights of the era are portrayed, predominantly Orson Welles and John Houseman, along with Marc Blitzstein. Blitzstein was the author of the musical drama 'The Cradle Will Rock', the production of which was set to be closed down by the authorities on the occasion of its premiere, leading the entire company to march through Manhattan and perform the piece from the auditorium of another theatre.
