Synopsis
Family drama. Nello is a young boy living in 19th century Belgium, orphaned at an early age and raised by his grandfather in poor circumstances. Nello and his grandfather have brought up and cared for a dog, Patrasche, which they had discovered cruelly beaten and left for dead by its owner. As Nello grows up he and Patrasche take over the running of the family milk cart, their only means of living. When a well-known artist sees Nello's drawings in the town square, he encourages him to enter an art competition. But Nello comes up against trouble in the form of upper-class Carl Cogez, the mill-owner father of Nello's model, a pretty girl named Aloise.
