The Thirteenth Floor (1998)

Film details

Science fiction. Hannon Fuller is the inventor of a time machine. In 1937 he gives an important letter to a barman called Ashton with strict instructions to give it to another man, Douglas Hall, and nobody else. Soon after taking a trip in his machine back to the present day and telephoning Hall, Fuller is murdered. Douglas Hall is suspected by present day detective Larry McBain of being the actual murderer, and so undertakes to try and solve the crime by returning to the 'simulated reality' of 1937 created by Fuller. As the plot unravels, it seems that the 'present day' experienced by Hall may just be 'simulated reality' too.
