The Secret Life of Algernon (1997)

Comedy. Eccentric Algernon lives in a house amongst the collected artefacts of his late father, a famous Egyptologist. When an old and depressed friend turns up and shoots himself in front of Algernon, he panics that it may look like murder. On top of this Algernon has to contend with Madge Clerisy who is convinced that there is buried treasure to be found at Algernon's house.
