Brass Eye[12/02/97] (1997)

Film details

Science is on trial in this edition of the groundbreaking series. Tania Bryer and Tamara Beckwith report on scientific developments both good (vertical farms, the light-saving brick) and bad (mutant clouds). John McCririck is interviewed about artificial insemination, and Ted Maul and other regular correspondents provide their usual quota of disturbing news. More alarming still are the devastating effects of heavy electricity, which is falling from power lines in Sri Lanka and squashing children and animals. Luckily a number of prominent celebrities, including Richard Briers, Nick Owen, Steven Berkoff (who illustrates the problem by smashing things with a large hammer), Lynne Franks, Jenny Powell and shock jock Caesar the Geezer are prepared to use their positions and influence to draw attention to the plight of the squashed villagers, and be the first to sign angry letters to the Sri Lankan embassy.
