In a series dealing with disasters this programme recounts the story of Janet Culver a lonely divorcee from New York, who advertised for a sailing companion. A reply came from Nick Abbott and within weeks they set sail from Bermuda to New York on a 37ft sloop named Anaulis. A storm blew up, the boat took on water they had to take the life-raft. After nine days in the dinghy Nick began to lose sense of reality, he jumped over board when their water supplies ran out and drowned. Four days later, Janet was rescued by a passing yacht.
