Synopsis

Documentary series looking at changes in the twentieth century from the viewpoint of ordinary people. This programme looks at the assembly line which revolutionised the manufacturing industry when Henry Ford introduced it in 1913. Workers remember the fight for trade union recognition, including the Miller Road incident in 1932 Detroit where police shot four Ford workers; craftsmen at the Vulcan Motor Company in early 1900s Lancashire; the assembly line at the Morris Car Works in 1933 Cowley.
