Explores arguments for and against the ritual circumcision of boys, which is a common practice amongst Jewish, Muslim and some African religions. The Jewish filmmaker, whose own son was circumcised, shows how the operation is usually performed without anaesthetic by people who have no formal medical training. The core of the film is the story of one eight day-old boy who ended up in intensive care being treated for severe septicaemia three days after his circumcision. The myth that newborn children do not feel pain is exploded, and people who have suffered trauma as a result of circumcision speak of their experiences.
