Synopsis

Inspired by Thomas Hardy's novel Tess of the D'Ubervilles. Somen is a high caste brahmin who rebels against his father and is sympathetic towards the lower caste people. He falls in love with Kajri, a low caste girl but they are separated by circumstances. Kajri is raped one day and when she discovers she is pregnant is shunned by her family. Her child dies and Kajri has to bury him. Even Somen accuses her of being immoral. When he eventually realises the truth he accepts her, and the rapist is caught and punished.
