Synopsis

Scientist secretes a sample of Martian sand containing eggs in his vacuum flask when his project is closed down. He succesfully hatches the eggs which turn into creatures with intelligence which increases with each generation. Alienated from his wife, son and father he allows the sand- kings to kill his son's dog and a former colleague. Finally brought to his senses after he becomes infected from a sandking bite and they overrun his house, he perishes in a house fire he starts. But some have escaped into the surrounding vegetation.
