Film in four episodes,loosely based on Egyptian's Nobel prizewinner Nagub Nahfouz' novel about ordinary people spending a Sunday afternoon in Mexico City: Married Rutilio is surprised by his own homosexual desires. Alma, a young girl, is in love with Abel, the hairdresser. He leaves her to go to the USA to earn money for their wedding. Susanita rents out almost all of the apartments in the area, an old maid dreaming of meeting the right man. The fourth episode is set two years later and brings these people together again.
