Synopsis

Twenty-six part documentary series which chronicles the changes in the 20th century from the point of view of people who have lived through them. This first programme looks at the turn of the century and includes archive footage and recollections from people who lived at the time. The oldest contributor is Dorah Ramothibe, born in South Africa in 1881. She remembers the hardships which led to the birth of the African National Congress. Eva Hart recalls the sinking of the Titanic. Alexander Briansky, born 1882, remembers celebrating New Year's Day in Odessa in 1900. Jeanne Plouvin saw Louis Bleriot taking off to cross the English Cahnnel. Raymond Abescat, aged 9 in 1900, remembers seeing electricity for the first time.
