Synopsis
Love story told in flashback by Seit - a New York based artist. In the mid-1940s he was besotted with the beautiful Jamila when he was a young man living in the Kirghiz area of the Soviet Union. Jamila proves herself equal to the men of the village in many ways but is forced into an arranged marriage with Seit's brutish elder brother. When the brother is sent off to war Seit becomes Jamila's protector. When the handsome wounded soldier Daniyar arrives at the village and he and Jamilla have a passionate affair Seit must learn how to deal with the disappointment of his unrequited love.
