Synopsis

Set the early 20th Century. Belle is determined to lead her life as she wishes. She begins a lesbian relationship with Marthe, her mother's housekeeper, when that fails she goes on to found a chain of clothing stores, marry and have children. Nothing she does brings her contentment and she realises she has become as cold and detached as her own mother whom she despised as a child.
